MEMORIES OF SOMPTING

COMMENTING ON PETER ARNOLD'S MEMORIES

I lived at No 3 Church Lane Sompting until 1955.

I am almost certain that the grave in the photograph was in the cemetery of St Marys Church Sompting. I remember a grave there of German airmen but after so many years cannot remember their names.

Numbers 1 and 3 Church Lane, were beside the Marquis of Grandby pub (number 2 was divided between these two at one stage to make the other two larger) and were tied cottages belonging to H & A Pullen-Burry who had their market garden headquarters at Rectory Farm on Dankton Lane Sompting, as well as nurseries at other places locally. The family in No 1 in those years were the Hounsomes, there were two daughters as I remember, Marion and Rita. Their dad and mine were both lorry drivers for Pullen-Burrys.

Does any body have any memories of Church Lane, the air raid shelter opposite No 3, Atterburys shop on West Street in the village, or of Pullen- Burrys? I know it is a long time ago, I left Sompting in 1955, but as you get old, you begin to remember the 'old ' days, but I would love to get any emails.

By the way my fathers name was Tom Sheridan he was Irish.

Living in hope of some messages,

Bill Sheridan.

If you share Bill's memories, then please email memories@bn15.co.uk.
